Well done to Dalkeith Nedlands with the upset of the season when they defeated Armadale of the weekend. Dalkeith are capable of playing some mercurial bowls at times and this must have been one of those days when they secured 8 points against an Armadale side who had won 9 on the trot and held a mortgage on top spot. I note Armadale Commander in Chief Stewart Gosstray not playing in his usual skipper’s role this week after missing last week due to what I believe are broken ribs. A lesser man would probably be still in hospital however Gosstray has elected to push thru the pain barrier and soldier on. This wouldn’t help the Armadale side but Dalkeith look to have been rampant and deserved this win. The defeat throws up a glimmer of hope again for Kardinya in their quest for top spot and Armadale will be looking to get things back on track next week against arch rival, South Perth. Dalkeith on the road to Gosnells where they will be hoping to win 2 in a row.
Kardinya 110 (7) vs Gosnells 67 (1)
(Aaron Gale 30 - Kelvin Pearce 17) (Danny Comrie 47 - Mark Beauchamp 9) (Garry Knight 10 - Eoghan Gahan 22) (John Rochford 23 - Michael Rickard 19)
South Perth back in form with a comfortable win over Willetton on the weekend. Steve Kelly was the big winner on the with a 17 shot win over the combative Alan Walters. Wins to both John Carter and Neale Griffin allowed South Perth to walk away with 7 points with the sole point for Willetton coming from the Gavin Dodge rink. South Perth face a big test next week when they are back on the road to Armadale whilst Willetton face another trip on the road when they must make the trek to Safety Bay. Both matches should have a big impact in shaping both ends of the ladder.
Rossmoyne 88 (7) vs Cockburn 55 (1)
(Anthony Churcher 24 - Paul Brotherston 8) (Craig Edson 20 - James Wylie 22) (Raymond Halse 20 - Denis Bandy 14) (Wayne Heldt 24 - Mark (Sydney) Game 11)
Kardinya came away with a comfortable win and 7 points in defeating Gosnells on the weekend as expected. The little Master as he is referred to, Danny Comrie made I think his first appearance for the season for the Kardinya Blue team and secured a lazy 38 shot win over the luckless Mark Beauchamp. Comrie should be immediately reinstated into the Kardinya White side for the safety of all rinks in One Blue. For the Gosnells side Eoghan Gahan played a lone hand in defeating Garry Knight and one point for Gosnells. Next week Gosnells back at home with a must win match against bottom 4 side Dalkeith whilst Kardinya have a tricky fixture away at Cockburn.
Safety Bay 85 (2) vs Rockingham 89 (6)
(Raymond Clark 17 - Bradley Cole 24) (Raymond Kennedy 21 - Lindsay Atkins 15) (Ron Hall 25 - Marcus Simpson 19) (Steven Adams 22 - Mark Devenny 31)
Rossmoyne did what they needed to do when comfortably defeating Cockburn on the weekend. A return of 7 points sees them sitting comfortably in 6th position and in the safety zone when it comes to potential relegation. The Rossmoyne side consistent across the board and it was only the Craig Edson rink who lost a close one to James Wylie that stopped them getting all 8 points. Cockburn back at home next round against Kardinya while Rossmoyne have a difficult trip on the road to Rockingham.
South Perth 86 (7) vs Willetton 62 (1)
(John Carter 21 - Joshua Calyun 15) (Neale Griffin 26 - Justin Wright 14) (Steve Kelly 27 - Alan Walters 10) (Wayne Bezant 12 - Gavin Dodge 23)
Well this one was certainly our match of the round and in a close finish it was the Rockingham side who prevailed with a narrow 4 shot aggregate win. Brad Cole continued his good season and a win to Mark Devenny allowed Rockingham to secure 6 points and retain 3rd place on the ladder. Safety Bay as always very competitive and they just fell short despite wins to Ray Kennedy and Ron Hall. It should be noted that Hall is having a fantastic season sitting in 2nd place on the skipper’s ladder just behind state skipper Kevin McKay. Next round Safety Bay at home again vs Willetton whilst Rockingham back at home against Rossmoyne.
