The last games to finish off the first round, sees a number of top class fixtures. The Cockburn Roosters play the Fremantle Mariners at Beeliar, the South Perth Millers clash with the hungry Thornlie Ravens in the leafy suburb of South Perth. But the game that catches my eye, is that one between the Manning Eagles and the visiting Hilton Hawks.
May i wish all of our many readers a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year. Stay safe everyone.

First versus Third in this fixture to be played on the tricky synthetic surface at the home of the Roosters. The Cockburn boys would be very confident of beating the visiting Mariners, who normally play on their smooth, well prepared grass green at Freo. But the Mariners will give it their best shot I am sure, could be a surprise, but I don’t think so.
The two leading rinks in this division in Krajancic and Simunovic would be keen to lock horns, wouldn’t that be something if they drew each other. Or, what about the two Krajancic brothers clashing, could be interesting if that occurs. There are some great bowlers sprinkled through the ranks of both clubs. Srhoy, Zusman, Marko Krajancic, Tepania, Simunovic for the Roosters. While the Mariners have Wachmer, Tony Krajancic, Golem , Stewart to name a few. Obviously there are many more good players in both of the sides, which is why each club is doing well this year.
I confidently predict the home side to prevail easily though.
Cockburn 7-1

ROCKINGHAM v LEEMING

ROCKINGHAM
K Tremlett, S Hutchinson, V Arriagada, D Poole
B Edwards, M Peters, G Roberts, I Wright
M Devenny, P Villa, S Wales, J Laukkanen
R Costello, J Lethlean, M Wilson, T Rubery

LEEMING

K Vandersluys, P Boys, D Johnson, W Birrell
G Ford, J Bowden, B Eather, R Bellis
J Newton, G Burgess, A Andersson, P Hickey
INS: A Anderson, D Anderson
OUTS: D Cleal, D Clayton

The Lions are stepping well outside of their territory to try and catch the Rams down at windy Rockingham. Have the visitors finally found some form, this game will tell us.
The Rams haven’t won too many aggregates, but they are fairly competitive most weeks including last Saturday. Some good skips and thirds going around in this game. Ford, Newton, Boys, Vandersluys, Bugess, for Leeming. Edwards, Peters, Costello, Devenny, Villa for the Rams. I am not sure that the home ground will be a big enough advantage for the home side, but I will pick them, but only just. That should be the “ kiss of death “ for them.
Rockingham 6-2

KALAMUNDA v SPEARWOOD

KALAMUNDA
A Burt, W Olive, H Clifford, M Thomas
B Brandsma, R Cooper, T Price, T Mountford
D Wooltorton, I Quayle, G McDonald, M Clancy
A Bartlett, P Townsend, B Farrant, V Hughes
INS: W Olive
OUTS: R Pringle

SPEARWOOD
D Tomasich, B Yakas, T Mathein, M Krajancic
K Nadilo, I Dragicevich, B Dropulic, N Sokol
I Unkovich, T Gimblett, J Galipo, B Bavcevic
I Perica, B Vidovich, J Stojan, T Fiamengo
INS: B Yakas, J Galipo
OUTS: N Silich, M Hodzic

A long journey awaits the Spearwood boys, as they traverse up to the hills of Kalamunda on Saturday, unless a near miracle occurs, it will be an even longer journey on the way home. The Cougars had a very good win last week, and they will be very keen to go into the Xmas break with another aggregate win under their belt. Spearwood have had only one win all year, and I cannot see them improving on that dismal record here unfortunately. I don’t know if they have any good substitutes around, but it may just be worth trying some of them. But, there is no sentiment in sport, so I am sure the Cougars will still be hungry for more wins.
Kalamunda. 7-1

SOUTH PERTH v THORNLIE

SOUTH PERTH
D Bandy, D Calvo, F Anderson, J Percival
M McRae, M Petrich, G Reagan, M Hughes
S Kelly, B Roelefs, I Rennie, L Moretti
V Santostefano, A Durrant, J Cook, B Owen
INS: F Anderson
OUTS: J Galipo

THORNLIE
M Separovich, P Pohe, J Thorn, P Riggio
G Vaughan, G Collier, C Penaluna, A Williams
M Yates, G Beckwith, D Slade, J Walker Jnr
M White, D Innes, J Stean, J Mitchell
INS: No change
OUTS:

Both sides lost last week, dismally at that unfortunately. So each sixteen should be fired up for this clash in the plush surrounds of South Perth. Even though the Millers lost last week, they have a very experienced sixteen, so I expect them to ruffle a few Ravens feathers on Saturday. Changes to the rinks at S Perth, as Roelofs loses his skips role to Dennis Bandy. Can’t quite work that one out. The Ravens have also sprung a surprise with previous lead in Murray White now skipping, about the third or fourth skip for this rink.
It will be interesting if Santostefano draws Yates, could be some fireworks if that happens.
I think the overall depth of the home side will see them victorious, and easily at that.
South Perth 7-1

MANNING v HILTON PARK

MANNING
M Piggott, S Adams, P Bowden, P Barrow
D Mcllheney, B Griffiths, S Salamon, B Connell
M Carey, G Hogg, A Lill, S Lambert
G O'Brien, W Heldt, N Rees, M Hoskin
INS: No change
OUTS:

HILTON PARK
C Standley, R Hunter, B Smith, T Maxwell
T Simpson, Daniel Newton, Dave Newton, R Fortini
R Foy, G Dodd, L Onley Jnr, R Butler
H McKay, C McMahon, K Willis, S Farrell
INS: K Willis
OUTS: K McKay

This game could be a lot closer than you might think, but the home ground advantage should see the Eagles prevail quite comfortably. They have been going along quite nicely this year and now sit 2nd on the ladder. Good skips in Piggott, McIlhenney, Carey and Graeme O’Brien in particular, who is having a very good year. Their front end does not look as strong as last year, but is still solid enough. The Hawks have most of their “ big guns “ playing again, maybe the team will be more settled this week. Kevin MCKay once again missing though. They will be playing on a very different surface to what they have at Hilton, so that may find them out.
Manning 6-2
